When does morphogenesis occur, and what role does it play in the development of the embryo? What are the two early stages of morphogenesis called?
After the formation of the blastula, morphogenesis begins. Morphogenesis sets the shape and pattern of the embryo's development. Early morphogenesis includes the processes of gastrulation and neurulation. Gastrulation and neurulation shape the embryonic cells into the initial configuration required for later differentiation into the principal tissues of the fully-developed organism.
